Abstract

Vacuumtainer is an integral devise in the healthcare related operation. The demand for vacuumtainer is on the increasing trend. Local supplier inability to produce such vacuumtainer was attributed to the unavailability of vacuum machine to support their operation. Because of this, a design proposal of such a machine is pursued in this project. An established design methodology, from the formulation of needs up to the detail design, was used in coming up with the vacuum machine design. The proposed machine design was based on modular concept which able to cater for various sizes of vacuumtainer using common base module. To accommodate the various sizes, user only have to purchase "plug and play" attachment to be fitted to the common base. This feature provides flexibility in users operation with minimal increment in cost. The proposal also includes the production layout that adopted manufacturing cell concept. This concept optimizes the labor productivity and enables the implementation of "pull-system" product flow. The 'pull-system' product flow eliminates "work-in-progress" (WIP) in the operation.
