Abstract

This study is to develop an air flow sensor system to measure and monitor the reading of air flow velocity for for the two different type of engines which is 1000litre and 660litre. Commonly, the air filter is changed according to the manufacturer maintenance scheduled, and not based on the condition of the filter. This can cause the replacement of filters that can still be used. The dust or foreign particles from the atmospheric air that pass through the air filters of the internal combustion engines are influence their wear. The main purpose of air filters is to reduce the quantity of particles that reach the burning chambers of internal combustion engines. The replacement of air filters must be made by understanding the implications of their premature or tardy replacement over the life of the engine. In this project, it will done by testing the air filters of the same type but different engines capacity which is 1000litre and 660litre. A wind sensor and Arduino Uno are connected on the air filter casing to measure and monitor the effectiveness of air filter. Based on the data collected from this study, the airflow velocity is clearly increasing on all the variables of speed tested based on the different condition of air filter. The airflow velocity of air filter A, and B on the 1000litre is higher than 660litre which is the 1000litre gained much more air velocity intake to the engine compared to 660litre. The result gained on the test that have been done on both of engine are different even though the air filter that been used are the same.The average value based on the graph shows that different engine capacity are influence the air intake to the engine. The usage of the LED light as an indicator to mention the status of the air filter effectiveness was an efficient way to monitor the air filter condition in order to prevent the premature replacement of air filter, so then the air filter could be used until it lasting period.
