Abstract

Wind energy is kinetic energy harvested by the flow of air to generate electricity or mechanical power. Wind power will generate waves to drive wind turbines. The results of harvesting wind energy potential by turbulence adverse effect on the car using CFD simulation can be done for wind energy production. The aim of this study is to produce a 3D CAD model of a car, to simulate an air flow on a car model based on certain speed and to analyze the potential of wind energy produced. The use of cars in Malaysia is increasing due to the growing population. Thus, the highway in Malaysia can help in the harvesting of renewable energy to produce wind energy. CATIA software is used to design the car before it is put into the CFD software. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is to analyse the airflow around the vehicle. CFD software is required to obtain information about the content, layout, and size of the data collected. From that, the results shows that the potential wind energy was calculated based on certain speed which is 22 m/s, 28 m/s and 33 m/s. In conclusion, the results of this study can be used to generate more airflow resulting from the movement of the cars on the highway and can turn the wind turbine to produce the electricity based on the resulting wind velocity.
