Abstract

Lean manufacturing has existed since the late 1970s. The idea of lean manufacturing was developed for maximizing the resource utilization through minimization of waste. Successful lean implementation is often attributed to organizational culture. Value adding process is necessary to achieve production perfection; hence implementing a lean manufacturing system is becoming a core competency for any type of organizations to sustain. Lean manufacturing has developed various tools and techniques since the birth of Toyota Production System such as Standardized Work, 5S, Just in Time (JIT), Poka Yoke, Line Balancing Analysis and Kaizen. All these effort is objectively to keep cost down and stay ahead in the industry. This study has been conducted at small scale manufacturing workshop located at Kuala Langat, Selangor. The purpose of this study is to lessen non-value added activities at the production line by implementing lean manufacturing tools. The result of this study is then analysed by work measurement method to see if the lean tools used is effective or not.
