Abstract

This paper presented the optimization of hole machining parameters for irregular shape of product which considered the demand for precise components production in automotive industry was increased because dimension accuracy is one of the most important requirements from the specified customer. There are many parameters that have an effect on the dimension accuracy but those are difficult to quantify adequately. During hole machining operation, there are many parameters that can contribute to high dimension accuracy. The used of unsuitable parameters value can led to out of the dimension specifications. Machining parameters such as cutting speed, feed rate and pitch circle diameter are known to have a large impact on the accuracy of the hole. Thus, experiment is conducted on two different models which are 30 degree for model 1 and 50 degree of model 2. The parameters orientations involve are 78 m/min and 116 m/min of cutting speeds, 0.036 mm/rev and 0.066 mm/rev of feed• rate besides 80 mm and 180 mm pitch- circle for model I and 200 mm 380 mm of model 2. Okuma milling machine was used with HSS end mill to machine the mild steel with semi-synthetics as a cutting fluid. With the help of full factorial design experiment using Minitab software, parameters orientation is generated from Full Factorial Design of Experiment. The result finally generates the mathematical model of hole machining parameter on irregular surface of product in order to get the best dimension accuracy.
