Students in electric machines laboratory spend significant time on the standard hardwired instruments during their actual experiment, such as ammeters, voltmeters and wattmeters to observe RMS voltage, RMS current and real power of the machines. The important quantities such as reactive power and power angle cannot be shown in real time using the traditional instruments. So it is important to let the students understand the concepts by visualizing the performance of the machines rather than copying the data in order to get the description of the performance of the machines. Application of virtual instrumentation (VI) in electrical engineering laboratory provides the means for students to see the effects on certain quantities when other parameters are changed. The emphasis of this project is to implement the virtual instrumentation concept with data acquisition hardware and related software to show the waveform, phasor diagram, power triangle, machines' characteristics plot and dynamic behaviours of the operating machines in real time basis.
