Abstract

The project relates to a mechanism to launch sepak takraw ball by using different type of launching method. The aim of this mechanism is to launch the ball in projectile motion to the set point. The first design uses a pneumatic system. The concept is very simple where the compressor is connected directly to a piston and cylinder. When a push button is pressed the compressed air flows through a single acting cylinder and pushes the piston forward. The cylinder strikes the ball to the target point depending on the set angle. The second design is based on the catapult movement. Tension spring has been attached to the arm launcher and it is used to power the system in order to launch the ball. When the spring is pulled and released, it supplied a great force and high velocity. Both are the important parameters in determining the profile of the projectile. The third design employs a combination of spring tension and barrel to track and launch the ball. The tension spring is attached to the pusher, which when pulled back and released, produces a huge force and high velocity. The force and velocity drove the pusher along the barrel track and produced momentum that will throw the ball out from the barrel. Like the second design, the launching angle will determine the profile of the projectile motion. All the three ·designs were then compared and the best concept was selected and proposed as the final design.
