Formula Varsity is about a formula student racing car that is being organised by UTeM, almost similar Formula-SAE competition. This competition delegates a valuable project where it combines academic work and learning with practical skill. In building a racing car, one of the main components should be taken into consideration is the structure (framework). The goal of this project is to design and analysed a new frame chassis which are more lightweight than the previous of Formula Student FTK’s UTeM frame chassis. This is because the weight is one of the main factors that affect the performance of a car. Therefore, a lot of research has been done in order to achieve the main objective of this project. From the research, it can be concluded that the method to reduce weight is by changes the geometry of frame chassis design and the material that are used which can contribute to the weight reduction. However, changes must comply the rules and regulations of the competition. The fame chassis strength also must be equal or greater than the previous design. The torsional stiffness value is determined in order to know the stiffness of this new frame chassis. The new frame chassis was designed by using Computer Aided Design (CAD) method and latest structural performance analyses using Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) method. As a conclusion, a lot of new experience and knowledge have been gathered during the period of this project.
