Abstract

Home security is a hot issue that concerned by people nowadays. This is because the home intrusion cases have increased rapidly from year to year. The lack of awareness from house owner about security in home has caused their home easily targeted by intruders. Besides that, the waste of energy resources also occurred due to people tend to forget to switch off the lamp after used. To solve the problems, a web based home security system is developed. The home security system can be activated when users are not at home. The home security system provides motion detector and light detector to users. Any motion detected by the sensors in home will notify the users via SMS. Users can take action immediately after receive the notification. On the other hand, the light detector is used to detect the presence and absence of light. The lamp will light up automatically at night and dim during day time. In additon, users can choose which light to be turned off when it is unused. By using auto-light system, the energy consumption can be reduced gradully. Therefore, the motion detector used in this project is PIR sensor while LDR sensor is used as light detector. Arduino Uno and Ethernet Shield are used to allow users configure the sensors via web. The GSM Module will be used to send warning message to user once motion detected. The tools that used in web page development are Adobe Dreamweaver, XAMPP and MySQL. In summarize, the web based home security system is developed to allows users to know the status of their home by accessing to the internet although users are not at home.
