Abstract

Malaysia is a country in the position of the ring of low wind speed. Low wind speed makes wind turbines difficult to rotate and generate wind power. This study was conducted to identify vertical axis wind turbines that are suitable for use in Malaysia. In addition, this study aimed to choose the appropriate type of blade used either type of force drag or lift. This study was conducted using wind turbines vertical axis Darrieus either or Savonius. The study also reviews using wind speed below 5 m/s. In addition, the design is made by using different blade types and number of different blades in order to find the differences at each model wind turbines. This study began with the design of vertical axis wind turbine using SolidWork software. six vertical axis wind turbine design made to be simulated using software ANSYS CFX. four vertical axis wind turbine model was the application lift and two vertical axis wind turbine model application force drag Simulation performed using wind speed 2 m/s, 3 m/s, 4 m/s and 5 m/s because these values are typical wind speed in Malaysia. Simulated wind turbines will produce value, force, pressure and torque speed wind turbines. The values obtained are compared to determine the best wind turbines and the comparison of wind turbines that use NACA0015 and use the eight aerofoil blade is the best wind turbines used in wind speed have low because high energy producing abilities start for starting rotation.
