The objective of this dissertation is to initiate a preliminary investigation on the effects of moving heat input rate during welding process on aluminium alloy 6063 - T6. The scope of investigate welding parameters includes arc voltage, arc current, and welding travel speed. 27 welded specimens were fabricated using a semi-automatic robot-welding machine. The specimens were visually evaluated to investigate the welding effects on the weld bead profile. The hardness was measured perpendicular to the fusion line to determine the width of heataffected zone (HAZ) and hardness gradient, and along the longitudinal axis to study the hardness reduction along the fusiori line. The investigation has determined that the weld bead height and width, and penetration depth are inversely proportional to the welding travel speed and proportional to the arc voltage and arc current. These factors also influenced the width of HAZ and the hardness reduction along the longitudinal axis.
