Abstract

In this work, the pineapple leaf fibres (PALF) were subjected to an alkaline treatment using different concentrations of sodium bicarbonate (5% and 10%) for a duration of 96 h at room temperature. The primary objective of this study is to analyse the impact of various treatment processes on PALF's strength and Young's modulus. The tensile single fibre test was carried out using 20 mm gauge length on UTM attached with 50N load cell capacity. The finding indicate that the treated fibres in 5% concentration NaHCO3 solution exhibit a remarkable 43% enhancement in tensile strength and a 24% improvement in Young's modulus compared to their untreated PALF.
