Abstract

Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is an increasingly popular additive manufacturing (AM) technique in engineering applications. In FDM technology, the tensile properties of 3D printed materials are influenced by various factors, including the number of fibers loaded in the composite. This study aims to investigate the impact of fiber loading on tensile properties and present the findings. Three samples present each fiber loading level, ranging from 2.5 to 10%. All specimens are 3D printed using identical printing parameters and positioned at the exact location on the print bed to minimize the influence of external variables on material properties. The results revealed that the Arenga Pinnata fiber composite filament with a fiber loading of 7.5% exhibits superior tensile properties compared to pure PLA filament, with a percentage improvement of 69.9%. In conclusion, composites of Arenga Pinnata fibers with 7.5% fiber loading could be used as a new material for FDM with similar mechanical qualities.
