Abstract
Utilizing wood as the primary material for constructing goat housing has become unsuitable due to its limited lifespan and high maintenance demands. This study explores the use of commercially available Aluminium Alloy 6063-T5 as a durable and sustainable alternative. Grooved hollow pipes with a diameter of 28 mm and a thickness of 1.7 mm were evaluated through tensile tests, hardness tests, and the flexural strengths using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The findings demonstrate an average ultimate tensile strength of 266.3 MPa (259.5-273.1 MPa) elongation of 8 − 15%, and a Rockwell hardness of 82 HRB. These values are consistent with a validated against the ASTM B221 standard for extruded AA6063-T5. The pipes were also able to withstand a central static load of 490.5 N with a factor of safety of approximately 2.7 confirming their structural reliability. In conclusion, this study shows the suitability of AA 6063-T5 as a commercially viable option for developing durable, low-maintenance, and sustainable goat housing structure solutions.
