Abstract

The imperative to diminish emissions has propelled the automotive sector towards the use of lightweight materials, thereby augmenting interest in aluminium metal matrix composites for applications where strength and wear resistance are essential. Aluminium–silicon alloys, such as A356, remain important light alloys in the automotive field due to their low density and castability. Hence, the influence of the combined stir-casting and thixoforming process on the microstructure, hardness, and wear properties of graphene-reinforced A356 aluminium metal matrix composites was investigated. The microstructure results indicate that the stirring process transforms dendritic
