Abstract

A Selective Rake receiver is proposed to use two antennas to transmit data across a Space Time Spreading Time Hopping Ultra Wideband Pulse Position Modulation (STS-TH-UWB-PPM) dual antenna wireless communication system to this single _ Selective Rake receiver. This project shows that by using the Selective Rake receiver and varying the Signal-to-Noise Ratio gains of our simulator in the range of 16dB to 34dB in a dual input single output system one can transmit data at a lower Bit Error Rate (BER) for high Eb/No. Four receive techniques are considered; the use of the first useful ray (L = 1, Partial Rake), the best useful ray (L = 1, Selective Rake), the first four useful rays (L = 4, Partial Rake) and the best four useful rays (L = 4, Selective Rake) for each symbol period and 500 symbols are considered. This is also involved with the presence of 10, 5 and without Multiple Access Interference (MAI) for every simulations conducted. The proposed receiver is more complex than that of the Partial Rake receiver where it only considered the first and the first four arriving rays among all and this will result with higher measured BER compared to Selective Rake receiver.
