Abstract

Theoretical Isotope Generator is a system to display the mass spectrum based on specific molecular formula which is inputted by the user and it displays the details of the calculation and data that is labelled on the graph. The data of molecules composition is gathered from a standard data available from the standards organisation for the chemistry community called IUP AC. This system is developed to create a new system which could be use by any chemist from anywhere. Theoretical Isotope Generator is developed using Visual Basic.Net and Microsoft Access as a database. Those tools are selected because they have certain specialities that fulfil the requirements while developing this system. Visual Basic.net is capable in calculating the results and producing the graph. Microsoft Access is used because it could store the data of the molecules which are not too big and it is easy to be used by all users who are a programmer and non-programmer or unskilful user. Together with this, a suitable algorithm and concept is used to make sure the calculation is correct and relevant to the concept of isotopic distribution. So, the concept of Cartesian Products is selected in producing an algorithm for finding the combination of molecules and the results for each molecule. As a result, Theoretical Isotope Generator is built as a windows application and standalone which complete with the functionality such as draw, normalize and zoom the graph of mass spectrum besides allowing the users to view the detail of molecules and its calculation in finding the combination and results.
