Abstract

The fast emerging diversity of handheld and mobile computing devices such as personal digital assistants, mobile phones, etc. is a big challenge to user interface design practices. The challenge is added up by the miniature features of handheld devices. Although the handheld device is in a fast paced area, there are still lacks of standards in designing the user interfaces for the handheld devices. As a result, this survey is targeted to produce an outline in user interfaces of handheld devices. In this survey, a lot of issues in user interfaces in handheld devices are touched. Example of issues touched are usability, interfaces design practice, process involved in interfaces development, and handheld devices analysis.
