Abstract

Fungi Database Management System (FDMS) is a model of biological data management application which is built using web-database technologies. Relational data modeling technique has been applied during the design phase in order to model complex, hierarchical data belong to fungi species. The system is implemented on three-tier architecture with MySQL as the DBMS at the bottom layer and PHP as server side script in the middle layer. This relational system enables WWW access to the database and offers 2 main functionalities. The first function is to provide web interface for the mycologists as the targeted user, to perform data management task for fungi species. Secondly, the system allows the user to issue query to obtain biological characteristics for particular fungi species. FDMS works within the specified boundaries which covers one part of biological property of fungi species namely fungi biological sequence. Other parts of biological properties will be considered in the future expansion plan.
