Abstract

In this thesis the linear power amplifier has been design and simulate with Agilent EEsof ADS version 2004A for operation frequency of 2.45GHz ISM band. The power amplifier design used NPN Silicon Germanium RF transistor BFP650 manufactured by Infineon which is suitable for high power amplifier. Specifications requirement for the circuit was to get an output power of 20dBm at operating frequency of 2.45GHz and I dB gain compression. The first stage of the power amplifier design is to select the type of transistor which suitable for the power amplifier which can produce the high linearity performance. After that, the biasing circuit, input matching network and output matching network was design. The simulations for the design in ADS2004A include the S-parameter simulation, 1 dB gain compression simulation and two tones harmonic balance simulation. Optimization for the circuit was surely needed to increase the performance of the circuit. This was done by changing the lengths and widths values of the microstrip lines. The report mainly shows the application of 2.45GHz frequency band, the theory of power amplifier, and the design process using ADS2004A. Apart from that, the simulation results are discussed and finally the practical design layout for the power amplifier circuit from the schematic was produced.
