This thesis presents four novel designs of Substrate integrated Waveguide (SIW) bandstop filters. The first design is a hybrid reflection mode SIW bandstop filter. The network consists a of two-stage 3 dB quadrature hybrid with outputs connected to sub networks SIW Chebychev bandpass filter to give an inverse Chebychev bandstop response. The second design has the same principle as the first design; it only differs from the first design insofar as the two-stage branch line coupler will be connected directly to the two-port network of the SJW bandpass filter. The third design involves utilising a STW rectangular cavity resonator and coupled to a stepped impedance stripline to give a bandstop response. The final design is a transmission mode bandstop filter which utilises the SlW rectangular cavity to give bandstop characteristics. The cavity is coupled directly to a SIW main line. This is a three-stage bandstop filter, and each cavity has a different length as each cavity represents a specific resonance frequency. The boundaries of the SIW are realized by a series of via holes, the size of which and distance between adjacent ones are determined by following a set of design rule. All simulation has been done by using High Frequency Structure Simulator version I 0 (HFSS) and ADS Momentum. To validate the theory and simulation, all design has been fabricated and tested using Vector Network Analyser HP. The measurement shows excellent result and is in line with the simulated result. All design has been realised by using a standard PCB process as a result, the cost of fabrication is cheap and reproducible. It can be connected very easily to other planar MMIC and MlC devices as all the filters are planar.
