Abstract

Transport is a prior criterion for people nowadays to enable them to conveyance from one place to another. Recent study has shown that transport becomes a primary concern in England which the percentage is equals to 37%. Therefore, transport is vital for people to move around to accommodate their needs. On the other hand, there is limitation of conveyance ability especially those who with different able ability. Mobility of people with lower limb disability had raised many issues particularly related to equality of accessibility in their familiar environments. Different with able-bodied people, people with lower limb disability need a particular wheeled-mobile device to accommodate their daily needs but however, study has shown that people with lower limb disability mostly not prefer to use existing mobility scooter which available in the market. They are more likely to depend on others whose enable to take them out. This paper presents a design study for a research and development project with the aim is to finding an alternative mobility solution for people with lower limb disability. The study began with inve.s tigation of disability study in the context of mobility transport related to lower limb disabled people. The investigation will find out the problems that may exist and will be analyze using established method of critical analysis to find out relationship between product characteristics and user needs. The results then will be carry forward to design and development phase which to generate solution of product design concept and finally, the outcome of this study is to come out with design concept of mobility scooter with special characteristics to accommodate people with lower limb disability's needs.
