A Linear pulse motor is an actuator that provides linear motion without any motion translation. By using a linear pulse motor, linear motion can be produced with a high degree of efficiency. On the other hand, the linear pulse motor eliminates operational limitations and reduces the system complexity that is inherent to the motion translator. The linear pulse motor can provide position and velocity control even though it operates in an open loop system called the direct drive method. In this paper, a 3 phase cylindrical VR linear pulse motor was studied and its performance was then evaluated. Instead of thrust characteristics, driving method and driving parameters such peak, Vm, duty cycle, D, on time, ton and frequency, f of pulse voltage are suggested and discussed. The effect of the driving parameters to the mover velocity, v is also covered.
