Abstract

Nowadays, there is various type of urinal devices for females available on the market. However, not many of the urinal devices are specifically designed for bedridden users with the hygienic feature. Most of the female urinal bedridden patients utilize disposable diapers that have to be changed frequently and this will contribute to the user's expenditure cost and environmental problems. Hence, this paper aims to propose a new conceptual design of the female hygienic urinal bedridden using a total design approach. Various design activities have been considered to propose a new conceptual design. Digital logical method (DLM) and Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) were implemented to decide the best conceptual design. The selected design was further optimized using the Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) method. The result showed that the Risk Priority Number (RPN) after implementing the DFMEA was less than 100 and improved the product structure. The result showed by considering appropriate design activities and methods in the development process able to produce a high-quality product in the marketplace.
