Abstract
Worn-off brake pads often cause damage to rotor disk and its associate parts. The defects often reduce the braking efficiency and increases the maintenance cost. This research focuses on the redesigning & development of brake pad for Malaysia made Proton Perdana V6 with an embedded sensor to alert the user when the lining crosses the lining safety limit. This research emphasizes in incorporating a micro sensor into the locally manufactured brake pad to replace the conventional mechanical type alerting device. The sensor is aimed to alert the user 2000km ahead before it’s due to change. Critical evaluation and observations were carried out to identify sensor type and sensor location before the selection of the pad is made. A complete actual scale test rig has been developed to support Proton Perdana full transmission system, where the developed embedded pad was tested and validated experimentally.
