Abstract

Automotive industry is undergoing rapid technological transformation, placing greater emphasis on employee performance and the effectiveness of Training and Development (T&D). This study explores the relationship between four key T&D components which are Training Need Assessment, Training Quality, Training Method, Training Evaluation and employee performance. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 175 employees across the Malaysian automotive industry. The sample was selected based on the Krejcie and Morgan sample size determination method from a total population of 320 employees, ensuring representativeness and statistical reliability.The instrument used was a structured questionnaire, and the internal consistency of each construct was verified through Cronbach’s Alpha. All variables achieved strong reliability values above 0.80, indicating high internal consistency and confirming the reliability of the measurement tool. The Pearson correlation analysis revealed moderate to strong positive correlations between all independent variables and employee performance, with the highest correlation observed for Training Need Assessment (r = 0.657), signifying a strong linear relationship. Multiple regression analysis further confirmed that Training Need Assessment had the strongest and most significant influence on employee performance (β = 0.617, t = 10.309, p < 0.001), followed by Training Quality (β = 0.236, p < 0.001), Training Evaluation (β = 0.144, p = 0.006), and Training Method (β = 0.105, p = 0.027). The overall model accounted for 56.4% of the variance in employee performance (R² = 0.564), indicating that T&D is a critical predictor of workforce effectiveness. These findings contribute to academic literature and offer practical insights for HR practitioners to design data-driven, relevant training programs that align with organizational goals and strengthen employee performance across the automotive industry.
