Abstract

In the Manufacturing industry, management is looking for ways to improve quality, reduce downtime, and optimize the use of manpower, materials, and energy in increasing productivity. To remain competitive, it is important for companies to continue minimizing the operation costs but at the same time not jeopardizing the quality of the final product. To do that, every member of the organization needs to contribute. A study by the Engineering Division found that the filter used for the Rinses process in the Wet Bench (WB) machine was still in good condition, but the replacement was still performed every 7 weeks to comply with the 7-Weekly Preventive Maintenance (7-WPM) procedure. The assessment of current practice allows the company to reduce the cost by reviewing back the replacement of the Rinses filter during 7-WPM. Analysis of works of literature is needed to improve efficiency and reduce operating (OPT) costs. From the literature, it is found that to optimize the replacement of the Rinses filter, it is important to revise the current Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures through adequate evaluation and experimental plan to ensure that there is no effect on product quality. On top of that, equipment availability should also not decrease after the modifications have been made. After reviewing the results, we have learned that extending the replacement of filters from 7 to 14 weeks, can provide a cost-saving up to 50% from the original cost of filter used for each quarter. Additionally, the Schedule Downtime (SDT) that is required for 7-WPM can also be reduced to gain machine availability for production. As a bonus, this research also enables us to alleviate the ergonomic issues faced by technicians and reduce waste management plans. Above all, this study covers stringent criteria. Hence, a thorough evaluation and experimental plan will be the key to evaluate the performance of this research. This research will be a benchmark for future projects to extend the lifetime of spare parts used in the WB process.
