Abstract
Lean manufacturing for project-based production lines aims to minimize cycle time and identify problems. The Lean Hierarchical Function Deployment (LHFD) model, based on Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Quality Function Deployment (QFD), is used to identify the relationship between lean production lines and lean manufacturing strategies. Two case studies validated the LHFD model, with project-based production lines as a baseline. Four main criteria for lean practices are shortening process time, man and machine use, inventory and storage control, and workspace optimization. Three main lean manufacturing strategies are method of improvement, improving workstation layout, and production time saving tricks. These findings have implications for translating strategies and policies in the LHFD model, addressing productivity issues and identifying strengths and weaknesses in performance improvement implementation.
